Danbury Store Closes After Over 95 Years

A retail fixture in Danbury has shuttered after nearly a century in business.

DANBURY, CT --- Upscale home design retailer Klaff's has closed its showroom at 11 Newtown Road after nearly a century in Danbury. The retail locations in South Norwalk and Scarsdale, N.Y., will remain open.

Klaff's was founded by Joe and Mary Klaff, grandparents of current Chairman Joe Passero, in 1921. The store marked its 95th year in business by launching a new look, logo and products in 2015.

The company is in the midst of restructuring its business and shifting focus away from brick-and-mortar towards digital platforms. The retailer put up for sale the building housing its corporate offices on Water Street in South Norwalk in January. Orders made through the Danbury store will be fulfilled by the Norwalk customer service center, a company spokesman said.
