Danbury Teen Pleads Not Guilty In Fatal Newtown Crash Case

The 19-year-old faces manslaughter and other charges in connection with a 2025 crash that killed a passenger, court records show.

DANBURY, CT — A Danbury teen has pleaded not guilty to multiple charges, including manslaughter, in connection with a 2025 crash in Newtown that left one person dead, according to court records.

Alexis Moises Salazar, 19, entered not guilty pleas to all charges in Danbury Superior Court, records show.

Salazar is charged with manslaughter, tampering with physical evidence, negligent homicide with a motor vehicle, reckless driving, making a false statement and violating a no-passing zone. He also faces multiple counts of assault and reckless endangerment, according to court records.

The charges stem from an Aug. 24, 2025 crash investigated by the Newtown Police Department.

Police said officers responded to a single-vehicle crash around 2:40 a.m. on Berkshire Road near the Zoar Road intersection and found multiple people injured inside a Ford Mustang.

According to investigators, the vehicle had been traveling westbound when it failed to navigate a curve and struck a tree. A 19-year-old passenger, Mary Cordero, was pronounced dead at the scene, while four others were taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

Salazar was arrested on Oct. 21, 2025 and later released on a $300,000 bond, court records show.

The case remains in pretrial status, with the next court date scheduled for May 6 at 10 a.m. in Danbury Superior Court.
