Danbury Teens Stole SUV, May Have Been Involved In Shootings: Police

Shots fired at homes during two incidents in Danbury may have been fired by teens who stole the SUV earlier in the day, police say.

DANBURY, CT — Two Danbury teens have been arrested after police say they led them on a high-speed chase after stealing a car. That car may have been involved in two shots-fired complaints on Monday, according to a police spokesperson.

The shots were fired at homes in the Mill Ridge Road area by one or more occupants of a light-colored Honda CR-V, at around 7:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. While many of the homes were occupied and several damaged by bullets, police are reporting no injuries.

Police say that a car matching the description of the vehicle in the drive-by shooting was stolen earlier in the evening, and believe the three incidents were connected.

Following the second shooting, a Danbury police officer saw the driver of a car matching the make and model of the suspect vehicle commit a traffic violation, and signaled it to stop. Instead, it fled at a high rate of speed, eventually becoming disabled in the area of Triangle Street.

Several occupants fled the scene on foot, according to police. A search of the area, involving police and K-9 officers from Brookfield and Ridgefield, ended with two suspects in police custody. One suspect was bitten by the police K-9, but refused medical attention.

Police say that a search of the Honda revealed evidence of a firearm being present and a pistol, which they believe was discarded by the suspects, was located under a parked car in the area.

Police charged the 15-year-old and 17-year-old Danbury residents with stealing the car, engaging in pursuit, reckless driving, driving without a license, and interfering with the duties of a police officer. Additional charges and arrests are pending, according to police, and both are scheduled to appear in court.
