Danbury Water Dept Implements Sprinkler Schedule For Residents

DANBURY, CT — The City of Danbury Water Department has implemented a mandatory sprinkler and irrigation schedule.

The new policy will "ensure that adequate flows are always available for Danbury customers and for public safety including firefighting use," according to a news release Tuesday from the Mayor's Office.

All properties with automatic irrigation sprinkler systems are restricted to watering no more than twice a week, and during these times, as determined by the last digits in their street address:

  • Even-numbered (0, 2, 4, 6, or 8): Sunday and Wednesday, from 12:01 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., or 6:00 p.m. to midnight
  • Odd-numbered (1,3,5,7 or 9): Saturday and Tuesday, from 12:01 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., or 6:00 p.m. to midnight
  • No address number: Sunday and Wednesday, from 12:01 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., or 6:00 p.m. to midnight

No watering should be done when it is raining, or during the hours of 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., as the water evaporation loss is high due to midday heat, according to city officials.

The Danbury Water Department will monitor irrigation system use.

Residents with an irrigation need outside the schedule are advised to contact the Water Department.
