Danbury Water Safe To Drink After Christmas Eve Water Main Break

The incident had much of Danbury under boil water orders on Christmas Day, but the situation was deemed safe Friday morning.

DANBURY, CT — A Christmas morning water main break caused some havoc for holiday revelers in Danbury on Thursday, but the situation was declared rectified by Friday morning.

According to the City of Danbury, on Thursday, a water main break occurred on Sand Pit Road in the late evening hours of Dec. 24, impacting a large portion of East Danbury.

"Out of an abundance of caution, the Danbury Public Utilities Department is advising impacted customers in the low-service area to use boiled tap water or bottled water for drinking and cooking purposes," wrote the city Thursday morning.

As part of the city response, drinking water was available for pick-up at 36 Germantown Road — Danbury Volunteer Fire Battalion 31.

It all made for a harrowing Christmas Day in Danbury, but by Friday, Dec. 26, all was well as the main was repaired and the water deemed safe to drink.

"The boil water advisory has been lifted. Samples collected on Dec. 25 show Danbury water is safe to drink. Thank you for your patience and cooperation," wrote the city Friday morning.
