Danbury's Windmill Diner Closes

The diner reopened under new ownership.

The Windmill Diner, a restaurant that has been in business for more than 40 years has closed its doors, the diner announced on Facebook.

The diner, owned by the Rountos family, served its last meal Jan. 4.

“We are so grateful to our family, friends, staff and most of all -- our customers -- who have made the experience of running this restaurant so unforgettable. We could not have done what we did for so long without you,” the Facebook post said.

The diner reopened under new ownership Jan. 5 as The Mill Plain Diner.

“But wait -- don’t quit your Turkey Clubs cold turkey on account of this ownership change! Rest assured, your dining experience will be in great hands. We, as a family, made the careful decision to retire and sell the business to someone we trust and someone we have absolute faith can uphold the exemplary service and quality to which our customers are accustomed. You may know him, actually! He’s the owner of the extremely popular Blue Colony Diner off Exit 10 in Newtown,” the post said.
