Despite Harrington Hat Trick, Danbury Drops Close Game to Darien
On a cold October night, Danbury had one last set of downs to turn around a 24-21 game against Darien at Danbury High School Thursday. The score held in the last two minutes, giving Danbury the loss.
Darien football improved its record to 4-0 Thursday with a 24-21 road win over Danbury High School. Danbury stands at 1-1, according to FCIAC, Danbury's sports conference.
Darien struck early with a five-yard run by Peter Gesualdi, but Danbury's James Harrington scored on the Hatters' second play from scrimmage, leaving the score at 7-6 due to a missed extra point.
An interception by the Blue Wave in the second quarter led to Chris Smith's 21-yard field goal. Darien then scored again thanks to a Gesualdi interception followed by a 28-yard run. Harrington had his second score of the game for Danbury, leaving the score at 17-14.

The Blue Wave closed its scoring with a 40-yard pass from quarterback Henry Baldwin to Harlan Smith. Danbury's Harrington scored his third of three touchdowns with 3:56 left in the game.
The Hatters had one last drive at the end, which ended on a Gesualdi interception.

Danbury's next game is 2 p.m. Oct. 15 at Stapes.
