Dilapidated Danbury Apartment Complex Torn Down: Report

City officials hope the replacement of "The Barracks" will help revitalize the neighborhood.

DANBURY, CT — An apartment building known as "The Barracks" has been torn down, and city officials hope that its replacement will be a revitalizing addition to the neighborhood, reports the News Times.

The building was owned by Joseph DaSilva, one of the city's largest property owners. The buildings contained 24 apartments, and DaSilva said that the apartments had outlived their economic usefulness.

DaSilva was convicted of negligent homicide and sentenced to 18 months in prison for killing and Ecuadoran immigrant after a struggle in 2009. The building was located at 56 Town Hill Avenue.
