Former Danbury Man Gets 10 Years In Cocaine Trafficking Case

DANBURY, CT — A former Danbury man was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison Monday for trafficking cocaine from Puerto Rico to Connecticut through the U.S. Mail, federal prosecutors said.

Roman Santiago Jr., 43, was sentenced to 120 months in prison followed by 10 years of supervised release, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Connecticut. He was also ordered to pay a $15,000 fine.

Federal prosecutors said Santiago participated in a narcotics trafficking conspiracy from September 2024 through February 2025 that involved shipping cocaine from Puerto Rico to Connecticut through the mail.

During the investigation, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service intercepted multiple packages mailed from Puerto Rico to addresses in Connecticut. Each was intended for Santiago and contained about two kilograms of cocaine, prosecutors said.

Santiago was arrested Feb. 12, 2025. A search of his Danbury home and a storage unit he rented uncovered a package of cocaine mailed from Puerto Rico, additional cocaine and fentanyl and $276,298 in cash, according to prosecutors.

Investigators seized more than 11 kilograms of cocaine in total during the investigation.

Santiago pleaded guilty April 21 to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine.

Nagala also ordered Santiago to forfeit the seized cash, several pieces of jewelry valued at approximately $264,000 and a 2020 Dodge Ram pickup truck.

Santiago is currently released on $50,000 bond and living in New Britain. He was ordered to report to prison Nov. 16.

The case was investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the Narcotics and Bulk Cash Trafficking Task Force and Danbury police.
