Former Director of Veterans Affairs Patrick R. Waldron will be honored with a banner from the Hometown Heroes Banner Program in Danbury next year. Waldron held the position of Director of Veterans Affairs for close to 30 years prior to his death. He fought relentlessly to help veterans, their widows and dependents for which he earned a plethora of awards. Waldron was a member of American Legion Post #60, Disabled American Veterans Chapter #25, Korean War Veterans, Elks, Moose Order and the Americo Vespucci
Waldron served in the Navy as a Petty Officer Third Class during the Korean Conflict. The veterans hall located in Rogers Park was dedicated in his name and renamed the Patrick R. Waldron Veterans Hall. The building currently serves as a meeting hall for veterans and offices for some veteran groups. Current Director of Veterans Affairs Dan Hayes also has his office there.
Lee Teicholz, Program Coordinator for the banner program, stated that it is an honor to provide a banner recognizing Waldron for all the work he did for the veterans in the city during his time as director and for his military service to our country. Teicholz added that funding for the banner came from donations to the banner program.
