Grateful to Senator Kushner for Paid Leave
Senator Kushner cares about the people and families of CT.
I’m a single mom to a son born with a congenital heart defect. At just five days old, he underwent the first of five open-heart surgeries. During that time, I felt completely helpless, relying on specialists for his care, while all I could do was stay by his bedside.
His condition required us to travel out of state for the level of care he needed, which meant I couldn’t work. I exhausted all my sick leave, personal days, and vacation time, but it still wasn’t enough. There were many times I went without any income.
This went on for years. Most of my paid time off was used for his surgeries and follow-up care, leaving little time to just be with him. Then, in 2022, thanks to the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), I was able to be by his side, receive an income, and no longer deplete all my paid time off.
I’m incredibly thankful to Senator Julie Kushner for advocating for families like mine. If you ever find yourself dealing with a serious medical issue that forces you to take time off work, remember that you can rely on FMLA—and you have Senator Kushner to thank for that. I’ll be voting for her again because she’s always stood up for us. I hope you’ll join me in supporting Senator Kushner at the polls.
