Housatonic Habitat ReStore to hold Art Expo Fundraiser Feb 26

Join Housatonic Habitat for Humanity at the new ReStore at the Danbury Fair Mall location on Saturday, Feb. 26, for a special Art Expo Fundraiser event.

Profits from the event will benefit Housatonic Habitat’s “Brush with Kindness” program, a volunteer service that offers basic home repairs and ADA modifications for low-income seniors so they can safely “age in place” for years to come. “We are expanding our program in 2022 to include ADA safety modifications for low-income seniors as well as families in our community,” says Housatonic Habitat Executive Director Diana Arfine. “We offer everything from adding grab bars, non-slip stair treads and railings, to building ramps and widening doorways for wheelchair accessibility.”

The program also provides landscaping services, painting, and help with basic home repairs to enable homeowners to live in safe, decent homes. This volunteer program relies on private funding and corporate donations in order to offer this service free of charge to senior and low-income homeowners.

There will be more than 100 pieces of original and special art for sale at the event at the Danbury ReStore @ the Mall, starting Feb. 26. Profits will help fund the Brush with Kindness program. The show will feature a special selection of sculptures by local artist Joe Gitterman. Gitterman, a Washington Depot native, is a longtime supporter of Housatonic Habitat. Joe’s work has been commissioned by the Four Seasons Hotel in Houston, The Riverside Building in London, Norwegian Cruise Lines, and the Robert A.M. Stern-design Arris building in Washington, DC, among others. The show will also feature many pieces of art donated by Dana Bucci, owner of Bluebird Estate Sales in Ridgefield along with other private donations.

Brush with Kindness volunteers will be on hand from 11 am – 1 pm to talk about the program and tell you how you can get involved. “As our program expands, more volunteers are needed to help do the work,” says Habitat construction manager Peter Arcoma. “No experience is necessary, and we provide the tools. Just bring your desire to build a stronger community, and help our local seniors to gracefully age in place.” Applications for home projects will also be available.
