IntoBirds, an online magazine, community, and educational resource for all things birds caught up with Carly Weaver, an artist in Austin, Texas, affectionately known as ‘The Grackle Lady’ to talk about her ongoing art series featuring this gregarious bird

Common Grackles are known as being agricultural pests for pulling up sprouting corn, and notable for their harsh calls (their singing sounds like a rusty gate hinge), and indiscriminate droppings.

But to Weaver, grackles serve as her muse.

Intobirds met Weaver at the NY Now Show in New York City in February while searching for merchandise inspired by birds and her collection of grackles painted on wood panels was eye-catching.

“Carly capture’s the persona of this beautiful, gregarious blackbird, with its iridescent feathers, striking glowing yellow eyes, and crazy, keeled tail,” says Reneé Hewitt co-founder, and editor-in-chief of intoBirds.
