Danbury State Farm Agent Maria Ordonez recently demonstrated what it means to truly be a Good Neighbor by supporting a local, community organization.

Maria presented Jericho Partnership with a $15,000 grant on behalf of State Farm. Maria was recently honored with two of State Farm’s community involvement programs – the Outstanding Community Engagement Program and 100 for Good Champions. In each, Maria was one of 100 agents, across the country to be recognized. Few agents received both awards. Maria was recognized for her community support and volunteerism, as well as for recording her Acts of Good. As a result, she was given the opportunity to provide two grants – one for $10,000 and one for $5,000 – to her non-profits of choice. Maria selected Jericho Partnership to receive both grants.

“When I received notification of my awards, I was speechless,” says Maria. “I actually teared up and am beyond grateful to be given the opportunity to support this great organization. I have seen first-hand the impact Jericho Partnership makes on children, families and our hometown”.

The funding will support Jericho 360, which provides services for Danbury’s at-risk youth. The program addresses students’ academic, physical, social, life-readiness and spiritual needs.

“This program is life-transformational for at-risk youth,” says Lisa Siedlecki, Jericho Partnership's Senior Director - Community Engagement. “The path to lifelong excellence is unearthed by clearing obstacles these young people face. Whether it’s food insecurity, language barriers, abuse, or dealing with crippling anxiety or an undiagnosed illness, we can help them overcome their challenges. Without compassionate intervention, these students could become statistics in the high school drop-out rate, the teen suicide count, or even among those incarcerated. Our kids will benefit from State Farm’s generosity and Maria’s hard work. Maria is a gem with a heart of gold and we are blessed to have her in our community.”

Since the program’s inception in 1998, Jericho has achieved a 98% graduation rate, compared to an approximate 80% rate for low-income, at-risk students. Those struggling with grades are assigned a one-on-one tutor. Students also receive other services, such as medical care through its Samaritan Health Center and nutritious food through its food pantry.

“I am always striving to make a difference in the amazing Danbury community,” adds Maria. “I feel so grateful for this opportunity that will truly help my neighbors. I am proud to be a State Farm Agent and represent a company that supports improving communities.”
