The accused said he thought a passerby was homeless and wanted to feed him.

A Danbury man faces kidnapping charges after he said he mistook another person for being homeless.
As reported in the Danbury News Times, David Pope, 57 of Lincoln Avenue, thought a 77-year-old man pushing a carriage of bottles and cans down the street was homeless.
Police said Pope grabbed the man’s arm and took him to his house, where the man was bitten by Pope’s dog and was given food, the News Times said.

The News Times said the victim eventually got away and called the police.
A press release from Lt. Christian Carroccio said when officers went to speak with Pope, he refused to put his dog away. That prevented the officers from safely speaking with him.

Once they were able to talk to Pope, the officers determined he was showing signs of intoxication. Pope allegedly told the officers he thought the victim was homeless and was offering him food.
