Labor Department Issues Danbury Stop Work Order
The state Department of Labor issued a stop work order against a granite company for calling workers independent contractors, when they were not independent contractors.

All Granite & Marble Corp. working at 82 Mill Plain Road, Danbury, was issued a Stop Work order Tuesday by the state Department of Labor.
This was one of 28-such orders issued by the Department Tuesday.
The Labor department said companies that misclassify workers as independent contractors are trying to avoid paying state and federal taxes on those workers. The taxes they avoid are workers' compensation, unemployment taxs and payroll reporting.
