"Since day one our team has worked incredibly hard to engage with every Danbury resident we can,” said Councilman Roberto Alves, the Democrat's candidate in the mayoral race. "We continue to gain momentum, and our State and Federal partners recognize that, and I’m grateful to have them with us every step of the way.

The contest is the first mayoral race in Hat City following the loosening of Republican Mark Boughton's two-decade lock when he accepted an appointment in state government. Former City Council President Joe Cavo took over as Danbury's top executive, per the city's bylaws, in December. The republicans have nominated former city councilman and chief of staff to the mayor Dean Esposito as their standard bearer in November.
