Latest Danbury Coronavirus Update: 611 Confirmed Cases

"I believe that we are at the apex, right now, of our infections," Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton said.

DANBURY, CT — There are 611 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus in Danbury, Mayor Mark Boughton announced at a Monday evening news conference.

Of the active cases, 580 were accounted for in State testing facilities, and the remaining 31 were tested in out of state labs, Boughton said.

In his nightly livestream update on all matters Danbury COVID-19-related, Boughton thanked the National Guard for their work in turning Western Connecticut State University's O'Neill Center into a nearly 300-bed hospital, and made some predictions.

"I believe that we are at the apex, right now, of our infections," Boughton said. "I think that's going to last about a week. Each day we should be getting about the same amount of infections, and we should be getting about the same amount of recoveries. And I think you'll see a slow trickle-off, starting around the middle of next week."

Boughton noted that the turnaround in the numbers did not mean "we're out of the woods," and encouraged residents to continue practice social distancing.

"We're trying to limit people from basically staying together," Boughton said, explaining the covering of basketball hoops in City parks.

Asked by a viewer of the livestream if students would be returning to school before the start if summer, Boughton said," I don't see that happening." The mayor deferred to Gov. Ned Lamont, saying that the decision regarding when to re-open schools was not his call.

Boughton took the opportunity of the telecast to announce that "Clean City Danbury Day" is being postponed, "most likely until the fall."
