Latest Danbury Coronavirus Updates: 212 Active Cases

DANBURY, CT — As of Sunday evening, there have been 212 cases of the new coronavirus identified in the City. The State has identified 189 of them, and another 23 tested positive at private laboratories, according to Mayor Mark Boughton.

On Twitter, Boughton said there have been "several" deaths in Danbury as a result of COVID-19.

"At the City of Danbury we continue to remain vigilant and our teams are working around the clock," Boughton posted to social media.

Since Saturday, an additional 469 Connecticut residents tested positive for the new coronavirus, bringing the total to 1,993 cases across the state, state officials said. Thirty-four people have died. One additional death was reported on Sunday, and Danbury reported its first fatality from the virus on Wednesday.

Danbury Hospital has set up a COVID-19 Community Hotline to address questions and concerns for community members. Be advised that this dedicated hotline is for community members who are concerned about symptoms they may have. Other inquiries can be answered on the hospital’s website. Residents experiencing symptoms are encouraged to call this line to mitigate the high-volume call-intake of our emergency departments and medical practices.

Danbury Public Schools are closed until further notice, and will be moving to a Distance Learning Model starting March 30.

The Danbury Public Library is closed to the public and staff are no longer on site. Questions can still be sent via call, email or social media. The Book Drop is closed and all due dates have been extended until April 15. The Library has online resources, including downloadable books, audiobooks, streaming video and music, language learning, and research databases available through its website.

Until further notice, the following modifications to services provided by the Danbury Police Department are in effect:

Non-Emergency Police Complaints:
Please meet officers outside if possible
Officers will maintain social distancing whenever possible
Officers may handle certain types of calls by telephone when possible
Police Records Requests:
The Records Division is closed to the public until further notice. Please call for inquiries, if possible.

Medical Assistance Calls:

• EMS Personnel in proper gear will be primary responders
• Unless there are exigent circumstances, police personnel will remain outside until cleared to enter by EMS

The following service suspensions are in effect until further notice:

• Child Car Seat Installations
• Tours of Police Headquarters
• Police Explorers
• Citizens Police Academy
• Use of the community room

Danbury residents and visitors must call ahead and schedule an appointment with a department before entering any City Hall office. Open departments are listed below. Appointments are available between 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., and no walk-ins will be taken at this time. Departments will be providing essential services only. For example, if your issue can be resolved via phone or email, staff will assist you remotely.

The Danbury Probate Court is closed, however you may call the Court at 203-797-4521 during usual office hours, Monday to Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Nonessential hearings will happen by phone or be postponed.

Employment applications for the Human Resources Department can be placed in the drop box by the front door. Applications will be available in the lobby.

The State has announced it has suspended accepting applications for the Connecticut Recovery Bridge Loan Program. Over 4,000 applications have been received, and the funding has been doubled to $50 million. Any business that did not file prior to the deadline may consider the SBA’s Economic Injury Disaster Loan Assistance Program.
