Local Podcast Achieves Two Significant Milestones in July

A podcast on Connecticut history, produced in Danbury, has surpassed two major plateaus on its way to becoming a top 5% podcast nationwide

"Amazing Tales from Off and On Connecticut’s Beaten Path" – a podcast specializing in stories about Connecticut history – achieved two milestones in July: registering the 100,000th time that listeners have accessed an episode and logging the 100th episode published.

Amazing Tales CT, which was created less than two years ago, is among the top 5% of podcasts nationwide.*

Fascinating guests and subject matter experts join host Mike Allen each week to discuss interesting topics from across Connecticut. New, 20-minute episodes are available every Thursday, featuring stories about people, places, and events from Connecticut’s rich history.

Mike Allen, who lives in Danbury and produces the podcast there as well, is an award-winning journalist who has lived in Connecticut for more than 50 years.

“I have the best job in Connecticut,” Allen said, “because I get to travel the state, meet fascinating people and experts, learn about incredibly interesting aspects of the state’s past, and then tell the story in a radio-style podcast format.”

Brent Colley, who is both First Selectman and Town Historian of Sharon as well as co-Town Historian of Redding, says, “Mike Allen's Amazing Tales history podcasts provide a much more intimate and informative way of sharing history than any other format out there; his podcasts connect the listener with Mike's great storytelling skills combined with local experts who bring the history to life in an interactive and fun way. Even better, one can decide when and where they want to listen to it.”

Roughly half of the listeners are from Connecticut, with the remainder from all the other 49 states as well as 82 foreign countries.

Allen was the featured guest on The Place You Live, a weekly radio program on local history in western Connecticut that aired on WRKI-FM (i-95 FM) from 2020-21. Allen was News Director at the radio station in the 1980s.

Allen is also a featured guest speaker throughout the state, telling the stories that he produces on his podcast.

All 100 podcast episodes can be easily accessed at Allen’s website, www.amazingtalesct.com. Information is also available there about his speaking appearances. You can also access the podcast at services such as Spotify, Google Podcasts, Apple, Podbean, or wherever you get your podcasts.
