Man Passed Fake $100 Bills at Danbury Mall: Police

Police say the man went to various stores at the mall paying for small valued items with fake $100 bills.

A man is facing charges after police say he tried to pass fake $100 bills at Danbury Fair Mall.

Police responded to the “As Seen on T.V. Store” around 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. for a counterfeit money complaint. The store manager told police the suspect came into the store and purchased a $10 item with a $100 bill. Police determined the $100 bill was fake.

The suspect was identified as “Salam”.

After seeing a still image from the store’s surveillance, the officer recognized Salam as a man he had seen walking through the mall while he was responding to the complaint.

Salam was located and after being interviewed, police found he had been to several other stores paying for small valued items with counterfeit $100 bills. Police say he went to Dick’s Sporting Goods, Uniqlo, Children’s Place, Hollister, Abercrombie and Fitch and Cotton On.

He was also in possession of $800 in counterfeit money, police said.

Salam was charged with eight counts of sixth-degree larceny and eight counts of forgery. He was held on a $50,000 bond.
