DANBURY, CT — Several people were hospitalized and more were injured in a freak accident on Interstate 84 Friday evening.

A Connecticut State trooper was in his cruiser at the scene of a previous incident with a tractor trailer at the Exit 8 West exit when a small coach bus slid off the road into the center median at 9:05 p.m. While the wrecker operators were clearing up that accident, another tractor trailer came around the corner, lost control, jackknifed and struck an SUV with three people. It then crashed into the cruiser, according to a report from the Danbury Fire Department.

Fire crews, EMS, state police, Danbury police, along with representatives from the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and the Department of Transportation, arrived to find multiple people injured and an "extensive" fuel leak.
