McDonald's, 5 More Danbury Eateries, Fail Health Inspection

Health inspectors rate commercial kitchens monthly on a 100-point scale.

DANBURY, CT — Six food service establishments in Danbury failed health inspections in April, according to the city's Department of Health and Human Services.

The biggest name on the list was McDonald's, which earned an automatic failure for having sub-par hand-washing facilities. The fast-food mainstay, located on 67 Newtown Road, passed its re-inspection and is open for business.

Two more kitchens, Duchess of Danbury at 104 Mill Plain Road and Widow Browns Café at 128 Federal Road, also received automatic failures because of the hand-washing conditions.

Health inspectors rate commercial kitchens monthly on a 100-point scale in areas such as the availability of suitable hand cleaners and dry towels, whether potentially hazardous food is properly thawed, whether the mats are clean and in good repair, and dozens more. A restaurant must score 80 points or better to pass. Some violations, such as those surrounding the temperature at which food is stored, can result in automatic failures.

Restaurants that fail inspection are typically given 24 hours to remedy their problems and must pay a $250 fine. All Danbury restaurants that failed in April have since passed re-inspection and are back in business.
