Nearly Half of CT’s Hospitals Will be Penalized for Substantial Injury, Infection Rates: Report

Connecticut Health I-Team reports the penalty comes from having too many patients who acquired infections and injuries while hospitalized.

A number of Connecticut hospitals will be penalized for infection rates and injuries as part of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ Hospital-Acquired Condition Reduction Program, as reported by the staff at the Connecticut Health I-Team.

Nearly half of the state’s hospitals, 14 out of 31, will lose a portion of their Medicare payments this year, according to C-HIT. The penalty comes as a result of having too many patients who acquired preventable infections and injuries while hospitalized.

The 14 hospitals are among 769 nationwide that will lose one percent of their Medicare reimbursements, C-HIT reported. Affected hospitals includes facilities in Danbury, Norwalk, Hartford, New Haven, Bridgeport, Wallingford, and New London among others.
