New Principal Appointed for Shelter Rock School

DANBURY, CT — The Danbury public school district announced the new principal of Shelter Rock Elementary School Thursday. Dr. Jamel Gibson was chosen to lead the school, and his appointment begins July 1.

The New York native Gibson was recently an assistant elementary school principal in Newport News, Virginia.

“I am excited for Dr. Gibson to lead our Shelter Rock community this year," said Dr. Sal Pascarella in a prepared statement."His focus on building connections between our youngest students, their families and school has been highly effective in driving student performance, and I look forward to his bringing that enthusiasm for learning and growth to our Shelter Rock community."

Gibson graduated with a bachelor's degree in music performance from the University of Hartford, and received a master's degree in educational interdisciplinary studies and administration certificate from Cabridge College. He earned his doctorate from Hampton University.
