New Restaurant Approved For Busy Danbury Shopping Center

The restaurant would take over a vacant storefront at a shopping plaza near Danbury Fair.

DANBURY, CT — Jersey Mike's is planning to expand in Danbury with a second location near Danbury Fair.

Plans call for Jersey Mike's to occupy a roughly 1,200-square-foot storefront at 2020 Backus Ave., a shopping plaza that includes Buffalo Wild Wings, Cold Stone Creamery, Mattress Firm and several other businesses.

The Danbury Planning Commission recently reviewed the proposal, which calls for interior renovations only. No changes are planned to the building's footprint, height or site layout.

Project representatives told commissioners the shopping center has ample parking and is expected to generate fewer daily vehicle trips than when Chuck E. Cheese occupied the plaza years ago.

Commission members described the application as straightforward during a June 3 public hearing and signaled support for the proposal. A formal vote could come as soon as the commission's June 17 meeting.
