Nursing Home in Danbury Fined for Fatal Injury: Report

The facility was among six in the state to be cited by the Department of Public Health.

DANBURY, CT — A nursing home in Danbury was among six such facilities to be fined recently by the state Department of Health, the Connecticut Health I-Team has reported.

Hancock Hall in Danbury was fined $10,000 for three incidents occurring in 2018..

The first incident occurred in January 2018 when a resident broke a bone in the back following a fall out of a recliner. DPH inspectors ruled that the facility did not conduct a thorough investigation after the fall.

The second incident occurred in May, when a resident was given an overdose of insulin, resulting in hospitalization for tremors, weakness, a headache and low blood sugar. The nurse who administered the overdose did not check the insulin label against medical records, the DPH reported.

In June, a resident died from complications due to a head injury after falling out of a lift. According to the DPH, the victim had become combative with two aides while being moved in the lift, then slipped from the sling to the floor. The facility was cited for not stopping the transport when the resident became agitated, and for using the wrong size sling.

Other nursing homes cited include Bridgeport Health Care Center, Branford Hills Health Care in Branford, Greentree Manor in Waterford, Apple Rehab Watertown, and Rosegarden Health & Rehabilitation Center in Waterbury.
