Obituary: Mark Rosa, 62, Of Danbury

DANBURY, CT — Mark Rosa, 62 years of age, 35-year resident of Danbury, originally from Stamford, passed away suddenly on Aug. 16, 2023, of natural causes.

Mark is survived by his wife, Roberta Rosa, to whom he was very happily married for 35 years, as well as his sons, Nicholas, 33, and Alexander, 29. He is also survived by his mother Florence Rosa of New Milford; his sister Susan Palmer and brother-in-law Anthony Palmer; and his brother Alan Rosa.

Mark was predeceased by his father, Michael Rosa.

Mark was an Eagle Scout, and an Eagle Scout Honor Guard will be in attendance at services. He graduated with a BS in civil engineering in 1982, was licensed as a PE in New York and Connecticut and devoted his life to the profession with exacting attention to detail, highest-quality mathematical analysis, and honorable service. For over three decades, Mark worked as a civil engineer in Putnam County, NY, eventually ranked as the supervison of Planning and Design for the county. Retiring from Putnam County, he was immediately recruited to fill the position of design engineer in the town of New Milford. Mark reveled in the mathematics of engineering, the inescapable laws of physics and the unforgiving rules of construction and bridge-building. He was also a bridge-builder among men and women, too, and he sought consensus whenever possible among the often diverging interests brought to the table by businesses and politicians and local citizens with concerns related to the projects he managed. The math and science and safety always came first, but he cared deeply about the people affected by his engineering work.

Mark was highly respected in both Putnam County and New Milford, loved and admired by other team members in local government. Following his untimely death, and in honor of his devoted, highly competent service and his kind manner and consensus-building work ethic, Mayor Pete Bass of New Milford ordered all flags in town be flown at half-staff on August 18, supported by Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont.

Mark survived a difficult battle with cancer beginning in 2010 from which he fully recovered. He was a lifelong Yankees fan and UConn basketball fan. In recent years Mark also joined the volunteer editorial team of Wikipedia where he wrote and edited many articles especially related to American history, specifically the history of his home region, western Connecticut and central eastern New York state. He was passionate about history and engineering and recently vacationed in the American Southwest visiting the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam. First and foremost, Mark was a loving husband and father and deeply devoted to his family.

A memorial gathering, a Celebration of Life, will be held Saturday, Aug. 26, 3:00-6:00 p.m. at Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made in Mark's name to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
