Update: Suspect in Custody Following Foot Pursuit in Danbury

A Danbury police officer was injured during the pursuit.

A Bethel man was arrested on Thursday after a foot pursuit in Danbury where an officer was injured.

According to police, officers were dispatched to 139 Main Street around 12:25 p.m.today after being informed that William Oboy, 27 was inside Yankee Peddler and Pawn. Oboy had multiple PRAWN warrants for his arrest.

Upon the officer’s initial response, the officer approached Oboy to confirm his identity.

Oboy allegedly became physically combative and resisted the officer’s efforts to take him into custody. Police say Oboy actively fought with the officer and was eventually able to break free from the officer.

Oboy then fled on foot with the officer pursuing him.

Oboy was observed dropping a black backpack as he ran onto Bank Street, police said. he officer lost sight of Oboy on Bank Street heading towards Foster Street.

Police then established a perimeter and Oboy was contained. Officers then observed Oboy running again and apprehended him as he attempted to scale a fence, police said.

Oboy was charged with possession of a controlled substance, interfering with the duties of an officer, assault on a police officer, criminal possession of a firearm, possession of burglary tools and possession of narcotics. Oboy was held on $100,000 bond for this incident.

Police say they found narcotics not prescribed to Oboy as well as a revolver and knives inside the backpack.

The police Officer was injured in the incident with non-life threatening injuries and transported to Danbury Hospital. The officer was treated and released from the hospital.

Oboy had five Separate warrants: (No further information available on warrants)

1. Credit Card Theft, Illegal Use of a Credit Card, Failure to Appear 2nd $7,500 bond

2. Possession of a Controlled Substance and Failure to Appear 1st $3,500 Bond

3. Speeding and Failure to Respond to an Infraction $250 bond.

4. Possession of Controlled Substance, Possession of Narcotics, Failure to Appear 1st Degree and Violation of Probation $5,000 Bond

5. Failure to Display Plates, Operation of MV Under Suspension and Failure to Appear 2nd $500 Bond.
