UPDATE: One Dead, One Wounded at Shooting in Danbury

One of the officers deployed his taser on the suspect before shots were fired, but it was ineffective, according to police.

DANBURY — One person is dead and another wounded following a shooting at The Glen Senior Apartments on Saturday night.

Gunfire was heard round 9:30 p.m. and police were dispatched for a report of a "suspicious male"on the premises, according to a state police report.

Upon arrival on the scene at 25 Memorial Drive, Danbury police officers observed a man wielding a knife walking the exterior of the property. After a brief confrontation with the man one of the officers deployed his taser on him, but it was ineffective, according to police. Shortly after a second officer fired multiple rounds from his duty pistol striking the knife-wielding man at least once. A tenant, and female relative of the male, also suffered a gunshot wound as a result of the discharge of the officer's weapon.

Both parties were transported to Danbury hospital where the man was pronounced dead. The woman is listed as critical but in stable condition.

At the request of the Danbury State's Attorney's Office, the Connecticut State Police Western District Major Crime is investigating the "use of force incident."
