Outback Steakhouse In Danbury 'Permanently Closed'
The popular franchise is not coming back from the coronavirus lockdown.
DANBURY, CT — It likely won't be the last restaurant to shutter in the wake of the extended lockdown, but this one will hit Bloomin' Onion fans particularly hard.
Outback Steakhouse at 116 Newtown Road closed for good, according to a message on their answering machine.
The restaurant had been providing takeout and curbside service, which it promoted on its Facebook page, since at least April 6. The notification was the only local post in two and half months. Most of the feed contains national promotions.

Still, there's no shortage of Outbacks in the area — you'll just have to put in some extra miles. The closest Outback Steakhouse can be found at 14 Danbury Rd. in Wilton. Others in the state operate in Newington, Enfield, North Haven, Orange, Shelton, and Southington.
The Australian-themed franchise was founded in 1988 and has grown to more than 1,000 locations. The Bloomin' Onion, it's signature and immensely popular appetizer, is a one-pound breaded and deep-fried beast that the Huffington Post once called "probably the worst thing you could order," due to its high calorie count.
