Pets Killed, Firefighters Hospitalized, Following Danbury Fire: DFD

The Danbury Fire Department dispatched crews around 08:45 a.m. Sunday on a report of a house ​fire on South King Street.

DANBURY, CT — Several pets were killed and three firefighters hospitalized following a fire in Danbury Sunday morning.

The Danbury Fire Department dispatched crews at approximately 08:45 a.m. on a report of a house fire on South King Street.

First responders found smoke showing from the front and rear of the structure, with heavy fire conditions throughout the first floor of the home and "challenging conditions throughout," according to DFD officials.

Crews called for additional resources to the scene. A search of the residence found no occupants in the home, according to their report.

The fire was brought under control quickly, but three firefighters were taken to the hospital for non-life threatening conditions, fire officials said.

Due to the conditions inside the home, crews remained on scene for several hours performing overhaul.

"Sadly, several family pets perished in the fire," fire officials posted on social media. "Several pets survived and were removed by the fire department with assistance from Danbury PD animal control."

The Red Cross is assisting the residents. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Danbury Fire Marshal’s Office.
