Plan to Widen I-84 in Danbury Delayed a Year
An environmental assessment of the project will be needed.

DANBURY, CT — That ambitious plan to widen and modernize Interstate 84 in Danbury won't begin until 2023, the state Department of Transportation has announced.
The year's delay from its original start date will be necessary for planners and engineers involved in the $715 million project to prepare a proper study of the congested roadway and an environmental assessment of the project. The project completion date is now projected to be 2030.
The section of highway, between Exits 3 and 8, is used by 80,000 to 120,000 motorists daily, according to the website the DOT has created for the project.
