A Real Dumpster Fire: Danbury Crews Tackle Blazing Garbage

DANBURY, CT — Yesterday turned out to be a literal dumpster fire for some Danbury first responders.

Firefighters responded to an automatic fire alarm at Danbury Hospital around noon on Wednesday. After arriving at 24 Hospital Avenue, first responders were advised of smoke on the first floor and a dumpster on fire adjacent to the old emergency room entrance.

The crews escalated the incident to a first-alarm fire, mobilizing additional units.

Upon arrival those units confirmed an active trash compactor fire close to the building, and contacted Oak Ridge Waste & Recycling. The trash haulers took possession of the blazing garbage and took it to their yard on White Street under fire department escort. Once there, the load was dumped, spread out and further extinguished.
