Roberto Alves' Opponent Needs to Learn Facts

Roberto Alves has a vested interest in Danbury because he lives here and his children go to school here. His opponent does not.

Roberto Alves is the first candidate to receive NEA endorsement in many years.

As an educator, I often had to teach the differences between fact and fiction. Facts, as you know, can be proven 99% of the time. Fiction can be anything one wants to make up, and Mr. Dean Esposito, who is running for Mayor in Danbury this year, is damn good at it.

He wants you to believe that he is responsible for the record funding of Danbury Schools thanks to his “leadership” implying that we are at a record high. Well, Mr. Esposito, let’s look at the facts and fiction, then let’s have a lesson in the differences between them.

FACT: Danbury School District is the 6th largest in the state of Connecticut.

FACT: There are 169 school districts in our state.

FACT: Danbury School District is the LEAST FUNDED SCHOOL DISTRICT IN THE STATE.

FACT: Danbury receives $12,622 per student, coming in at the bottom of the 169 districts.

FACT: Sharon School District receives $45,443 per student.

FACT: That’s a $32,821 difference.

FACT: Danbury is not even close to the bottom of the list on income.

FACT: Danbury’s Republican leadership for the last twenty years has ALWAYS put education at the bottom of their funding list.

FACT: Esposito does not respond to meetings with the school district or the NEA.

FACT: Esposito doesn't even live in Danbury and has no children in our schools.

FACT: Republican leadership gives an automatic green light to housing construction which has led to an increase in population to our already overcrowded schools.

FACT: Dean Esposito is a sophist. (on your vocabulary list for homework tonight)

FACT: Roberto Alves has been endorsed by the NEA because they know how much Roberto cares about our children.

FICTION: Families with students do not move into condos or our new apartment buildings.

FICTION: Dean Esposito is responsible for the record funding of our students.

FICTION: Our students are well funded.

So, for today’s lesson, Mr. Esposito, please refer to the above facts vs. fiction. The facts are true and you seem to be trying to get people to believe you are interested in our children's educations, when you clearly do not. Yes, I am running for school board, and if I win, my goal is to help get our students more funding. But the more important point is, Roberto Alves has got this when he wins. He will not push student funding to the back burner like the Republican leadership has done for the past twenty years. After all, he has a personal stake in this with two of his children in the Danbury schools and a whole lot of people who are fed up with fiction.
