$1 Million CT Powerball Winner Revealed, $2 Million Prize Winner Looms

TORRINGTON, CT — Torrington mother Johanna Moreno decided to take a chance and purchase a single Powerball ticket hours before the drawing. She used a combination of her children's birthdays and hit the first five numbers drawn. She stepped forward Thursday to claim the $1 million prize.

“It’s been difficult lately but now I plan to get a car, a house for the kids and go to school.” she said. “I’m very thankful—it’s a blessing.”

The winning ticket was sold at North Elm Mobil on North Elm Street in Torrington. The store will receive a $2,500 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

A $2 million-winning ticket was also sold in Connecticut, but the winner's identity has yet to be revealed.

Powerball fever swept across the country last night and a $759 million winning ticket was sold in Massachusetts for the Aug. 23, 2017 drawing.

The $759 million jackpot is the second highest in Powerball history. The frenzy-inducing $1.6 billion jackpot was drawn in January 2016.

The winning numbers from the Aug. 23, 2017 jackpot are: 6-7-16-23-26 and Powerball 4.

• $100-$400: 415 winners
• $28: 12,656 winners
• $16: 115,647 winners

There were 9,397,724 winning tickets sold across the country for the drawing and non-jackpot prizes total nearly $135 million. In Connecticut there were 128,728 winners.
