Back to School Week is in the books, and just like that, my house is quiet enough to read one!

New science labs and a new outdoor pavilion at Danbury High School are just a few of the exciting updates our students will be enjoying this year. These improvements are part of our ongoing commitment to providing top-notch educational facilities that inspire learning and foster success.

A strong community makes a strong school system, and I have no doubt that this year will bring many achievements worth celebrating. Let’s make this school year one for the books!

Im also excited to share that the City Council unanimously passed the Mayor’s 2024 Bipartisan Public Safety and Infrastructure Bond!

This $49 million package will be on the ballot in November for voter approval and includes vital improvements such as a new fire station on the West Side to reduce emergency response times, an upgraded CCTV system for the Danbury Police Department, and a citywide road reconstruction program to tackle our aging infrastructure.

These projects are essential to keeping our community safe and ensuring that Danbury continues to thrive. I’ll be holding an information session about this Bipartisan Bond soon and I’m excited to continue these conversations with our community as I continue holding Town Halls throughout Danbury.

Finally, our community was impacted by a severe storm on Sunday, August 18th. I issued an Emergency Declaration to ensure our community has access to critical resources, and Governor Lamont also declared a State of Emergency which was accepted by President Biden.

This allows us, and areas in the state hit the hardest by the storm to access federal aid and resources. My Administration has partnered with the American Red Cross Connecticut, FEMA, Governor Lamont, Congresswoman Hayes, and Senators Murphy and Blumenthal to assess damage, and community needs, and assist with clean-up and restoration efforts.

A big thanks to our Emergency Management Director, Matt Cassavecchia, our emergency and first responders at the Danbury Police Department, the Fire Department, and our entire Public Works Department for working diligently around the clock to ensure the safety of our community.

The most important thing you can do is: identify the damage caused to your property and belongings (including structural damage, damage to personal possessions, lost inventory, lost revenue etc), contact your insurance company to see if you’re covered under your current insurance, and, if not submit your damage estimates through the Crisis Track Portal.

As always, I hope you’ll take the time to read more about the amazing things happening in Danbury. And, if you know someone who should receive this newsletter forward this email and encourage them to sign up for updates here.

Sincerely,

Mayor Roberto L. Alves
