ShopRite Approved For Former Stop & Shop Site In Danbury

City officials signed off on plans to renovate the Newtown Road property for a new grocery store.

DANBURY, CT — After sitting vacant, the former Stop & Shop on Newtown Road is now one step closer to becoming a new grocery store.

The Danbury Planning and Zoning Department approved a revised site plan for the property at 70–72 Newtown Road in the Nutmeg Square shopping center on April 22, according to city documents.

The approval allows for interior renovations and minor site improvements to accommodate the new grocery store tenant in the space previously occupied by Stop & Shop.

The store would be the second ShopRite location in Danbury and the 11th in Connecticut, according to the company.
