Special Weather Statement Issued For Strong Storms

Severe weather is moving in soon, the National Weather Service says. wpatch weather alert

The National Weather Service has issued a Special Weather Statement for central Fairfield and New Haven counties, northwestern New London County, and northern Middlesex County.

At 530 PM EDT, radar indicated strong thunderstorms located along a line extending from Burlington to near Southbury to Brewster. Movement was east at 35 mph.

Wind gusts up to 50 mph are possible with these storms.

Locations impacted include...
Waterbury, Danbury, Meriden, Middletown, Wallingford, Shelton,
Naugatuck, Southbury, Wolcott, Colchester, East Hampton, Mahopac,
Durham, Brewster and Newtown.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms, and may cause localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.
