Update: Danbury's St. Patrick's Day is Canceled

The Danbury St. Patrick's Day parade was planned for Sunday.

DANBURY, CT--

Update, Saturday, March 19, 4 p.m.

From the Greater Danbury Irish Cultural Center:

"Although the parade has been cancelled, the fun continues. We just confirmed that Chicks n Sync will still perform from 1 - 4 p.m. Food WILL be available tomorrow (Sunday).Corned beef sandwiches: $8, Hot dogs: $2, Great beer: priceless!"

Update: Saturday, March, 19, 1 p.m.

Parade organizers have sent out a message, notifying residents that "upon the direction of the City of Danbury, Sunday's St. Patrick's Day Parade has been canceled," due to the snow forecasted for our area." Because of the cancellation, the Irish Club won't be serving food Sunday, however the bar will still be open on Sunday.

The Mighty Ploughboys, an Irish rock band, are performing Saturday evening at the Greater Danbury Irish Cultural Center, 6 Lake Ave., Danbury. The kitchen and bar will be open.

The Easter Bunny will be passing out candy, pipe and drum bands will march along with Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, police, fire, local politicians and of course the Danbury area Irish-Americans in Danbury's Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade.

Paul Grasseler, Sr., formerly of Danbury, was recently named Hibernian of the Year along with Bethel resident Meghan O'Connor as Lady Hibernian of the Year. Together they will lead as co-marshals.

The annual St. Patrick's Day Parade will be held this year on Sunday, March 20, 2016 in downtown Danbury. The parade steps off at 3 p.m. at Center and Main Street, Danbury in front of St. Peter Church.

Below is the schedule of events.

Sunday, March 20:

  • 3 p.m. Greater Danbury St. Patrick's Day parade begins in front of St. Peter Church, Main and Center Streets
  • 3:30 - 6:30 p.m. Chicks n' Sync at the GDICC, 6 Lake Ave., Danbury
  • 4 p.m. Newtown's Gray School of Irish Dance, GDICC, 6 Lake Ave., Danbury
  • 6 - 9 p.m. Steve O'Tree, GDICC, 6 Lake Ave., Danbury
