Status of Danbury School Day Announced, Mayor Declares Level 2 Snow Emergency

BREAKING: Many forecasters are projecting over one foot of snow to arrive as a result of a Nor'easter storm heading to the area.

DANBURY, CT — Facing what many are regarding as the biggest snowstorm of the year, the Danbury Public Schools has decided to close all schools Tuesday, according to an announcement from Mayor Mark Boughton. The city will also be under a level 2 snow emergency beginning at 5 a.m. Tuesday, meaning that all on-street parking is prohibited and travel on roads is not recommended.

"Driving tomorrow will be dangerous. Please do not travel unless you have 4 wheel drive. Thank you for your cooperation - Mayor Mark," wrote Boughton.

The National Weather Service issued a Blizzard Warning for Fairfield and New Haven counties and for interior sections of Middlesex and New London counties. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the rest of the state.

Interior sections of Fairfield and New Haven counties are expected to receive 18 to 24 inches of snow accumulation and wind gusts up to 40 mph at times.
