Super Citgo Work Begins
The popular Friendly Service Station, a Citgo at the corner of Tamarack, Hayestown Road and Glen Hill Road, is getting larger.
Grading and clearing is underway in the vacant lot between Glen Hill Road and Citgo on Tamarack Avenue, in the first step to what will be a super-sized Citgo.
Plans in City Hall filed by Consumer Petroleum call for a larger, longer gas station with a grocery store behind it. These plans are preliminary and were filed in 2009. The Permit Center issued the first grading permit on July 21.
"It's going to be a huge Citgo," said Sean Hearty, director of the Permit Center. "They're going to repair and improve sidewalks on both sides of Tamarack."

The project will also include sidewalks on Glen Hill Road, but Hearty said more plans and details on the project are awaited in City Hall. The grading permit allowed the clearing work to get started on the lot next to the existing station. More pumps will be installed there. A grocery store will be added behind the existing station.
The gas station will not close during this work until the project is nearly completed. The down time is estimated at 14 days.

"They're planning to do most of the work and they're planning to do the new side first before the temporary closing," Hearty said.
