"This matter remains under investigation," wrote the Danbury Police Department in a release Friday morning. "No additional information will be released at this time to protect the integrity of the case."

According to the DPD, police were called to Lake Avenue for a report of a shooting at about 8:37 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7.

The DPD said "preliminary information" indicates a firearm was discharged inside a townhouse, with a single round traveling through a wall and striking a neighbor who was inside their home at the time.

Police said the victim was rushed to the hospital and later pronounced dead.

The victim has been identified as 37-year-old Victor Quispe of Danbury.

Quispe was a well-known barber in town and was engaged to be married and had a baby on the way.

Grullon appeared in Danbury Superior Court on Friday and, according to WTNH Channel 8, evidence indicates the shooting was accidental, with the judge calling it a "tragedy."

WTNH, citing court proceedings and the arrest affidavit, reported that Quispe was shot in the head while sitting on his couch, eating dinner.

Grullon, according to WTNH, is a convicted felon and is not allowed to own a firearm.
