University of Vermont Honors Danbury Student
The Unsung Champion Award is presented in recognition of achievements, accomplishments, and contributions to the UVM community.
From UVM: The University of Vermont's Department of Student Life presents Olivia Harris of Danbury, CT (06801) with the 2019 Unsung Champion Award, in recognition of their achievements, accomplishments, and contributions to the UVM community as a leader and pioneer.
The Unsung Champion Award honors a student for their substantive yet under-recognized contributions to the success of a community service project; recognizing a student whose dedication and behind-the-scenes support has proven invaluable for the betterment of the community..
In their nomination of Olivia, their nominators wrote: "A member of the Class of 2019, Olivia has been involved in many student organizations over her time at UVM: the Dewey House for Community Engagement, the UVM Program Board, Service TREK, the Tower Society, Volunteers in Action, and Alternative Spring Break - among others. Her work in the last two years as a student Director for Alternative Spring Break has done a great deal to build bridges between LGBTQ communities and others here at UVM and beyond. She has been a role model of an out leader - that you can lead with and through your identities, and be your whole self in the ways you're engaged. Olivia's leadership in creating the first LGBTQ+ - specific alternative spring break service trip this year has created a wonderful foundation for future service work. She is leaving a legacy of service and mentorship for future classes of UVM students. T"
