WestConn Student Accused Of Spitting At Football Players During Game: Police
Police said the 18-year-old also threw a drink at members of the visiting football team during Saturday's game.

DANBURY, CT — A Western Connecticut State University student is facing a charge after police said he spit and threw a drink at members of a visiting football team during a game Saturday.
WCSU police responded to the Westside Athletic Complex around 3:40 p.m. for a report of a possibly intoxicated student causing a disturbance, according to an incident summary released by university police. A Danbury police officer and a senior athletic department official were already with the student when WCSU officers arrived.
Police said the student had been standing on an elevated platform as members of the visiting football team passed below. He began yelling at members of the team before throwing a drink and spitting at them, according to police.

A parent of a visiting player who was standing nearby pushed the student away from the edge of the platform to stop him from spitting on the players, police said. The athletic department official and Danbury officer then removed the student from the area.
Numerous witnesses told police they were alarmed by the student's behavior. Officers said they believed he was under the influence of alcohol, citing an odor of alcohol, slurred speech and watery eyes.
