Where I Stand

Danbury Town Clerk

Many people have asked my opinion on the current Town Clerk fiasco. People who know me know I would really rather not speak on it because I try to give people the benefit of the doubt. However, now there's been a trial, a verdict, an appeal in the Supreme Court, and a definite validation of the first trial. I suppose now, I can say a thing or two.

I am not a career politician. I have friends and family that are Republican and Democrat. I love all of them dearly. I hate that the rhetoric has become so hateful and vicious over the past few years. But here I am, running for Town Clerk. A position, in my opinion, that holds prestige and honor. I'm not sure how I got here, but I am proud to have been nominated and I am surely honored. I believe the people who have supported me in this journey, believe that I have what it takes to fill this position with equity and integrity. I can tell you, I absolutely will. Fairness, justice, accountability, empathy, and kindness. The world needs more of all those things. I try to live in a way that I'd like to leave the world better than I found it. As Town Clerk or any other job I do, I bring those values with me. So if you care about those things, I'll ask you to vote for me.

As for the present Town Clerk, I do not know her personally, I know she had a career in politics prior to Town Clerk and can only base my opinion on the actions she has taken. It is disappointing that her actions, which were judged in court, were so contrary to the responsibilities and duties of her position. You can read the whole 19 pages of Judge Medina’s ruling in which he described the current Town Clerk as “not a credible witness” and did not approach her job in “good faith.” You can watch the Supreme Court’s decision. Unfortunately, somehow, the obvious facts don't penetrate some Republicans who will also choose party over their own senses and constituents. They'll just flip the script and stubbornly dig their heels in. I'm sure some who read this will just curse me, but this is the truth. I am my own person no matter the party I'm affiliated with. My values do not waiver. And there, is the difference. I am committed to doing what is right. For my community, for Danbury! And that is why I joined Roberto Alves and the Democratic team. Danbury needs honest and transparent leadership. That is exactly what we propose. For honesty, integrity, fair, and just leadership vote for Roberto Alves for Mayor, Laurie Esposito for Town Clerk, and the team on Row A. Please and thank you. It's time for a better more honest direction for Danbury.
