10 Cars Burglarized Overnight in Darien, Suspects Arrested

DARIEN, CT- Two suspects were arrested after at least 10 vehicles were burglarized in the overnight and early morning hours in Darien, according to police.

Police got a call around 5:30 a.m. from a resident on Intervale Road who reported that her neighbor's vehicle was burglarized by two subjects, said Sgt. Jeremiah Marron Jr., police spokesman.

Several officers responded to the area and a subject matching the caller's description was found. The 17-year-old juvenile from Stamford was determined to be involved in the burglary and was placed under arrest. He intentionally misdirected officers to prevent them from finding the suspect, Marron said.

Officers then found a subject matching the other suspect's description in Woodland Park. Officer Michael Cummings tried to take the suspect into custody but a struggle ensued. Cummings used his taser to take Karon McCollum, 18, into custody.

The two suspects were found to be in possession of numerous checkbooks, cellphones, chargers, wallets, sunglasses, a watch and loose change. All the vehicles entered were left unlocked.

Both were charged with 10 counts of third-degree burglary, 10 counts of conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary, 3rd-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny and interfering with police. The juvenile was also charged with possession of marijuana.

The juvenile was issued a summons and released to a family member.

McCollum was held on a combined $115,000 bond. He also had a failure to appear charge from Stamford for an unrelated robbery charge.
