$23,000 Reportedly Stolen From Darien Resident's Bank Account: Police

"Excessive withdrawals" have been occurring for months.

DARIEN, CT — Over three months this summer, more than $23,000 reportedly has been stolen from the bank account of a Darien resident, and local police and others are investigating the fraud case.

The theft was reported on Aug. 29 after the resident was notified by their bank of numerous "excessive withdrawals" that had been occurring during the period.

"Upon checking the account, over twenty transactions had taken place between June 5th , 2017, and the date of the report, all of which were to a PayPal account," wrote Darien police in a statement. "The total money withdrawn was estimated to be $23,483.00. The complainant notified both his bank and PayPal of the fraudulent activity, both entities opening up their own investigations."
