$25,000 For Traffic Study Considered By Darien Selectmen, Board Of Finance

Portions of the Post Road in Darien could go on a "diet."

DARIEN, CT — The Boards of Selectmen and Finance are considering putting portions of the Post Road in Darien on a "road diet," as recommended by the area's South Wester Regional Planning Agency.

The SWRPA recommendation, laid out in its "Route 1 Corridor Study," calls for the reduction in the number of travel lanes in each direction along the road down to one, focusing on some of the areas where there are currently two lanes in each direction, according to Darien officials.

Before the town can move ahead with such a plan, or reject it, officials are looking at spending $25,000 on a study by Michael Galante of Frederick Clark and Associates, Darien's traffic engineer and consultant, due to the magnitude of such a potential undertaking.

The possible project is being discussed now because state officials are preparing to repave portions of the Post Road, during which time narrowing the road would be easier should the town want to do so.

The Board of Selectmen are scheduled to discuss the matter tonight, June 19, at 7 p.m. during its regularly scheduled meeting in Town Hall; the Board of Finance would then take up the financial aspect Tuesday, June 20, at 7:30 p.m. in Town Hall.
