3 Stamford Teens Arrested On Vehicle Theft Charge: Darien PD

The arrest occurred on Jan. 17 on Hoyt Street in Darien.

DARIEN, CT — A trio of Stamford teenagers were arrested by Darien police on Jan. 17 after officers found the three sitting in a stolen Toyota SUV in a driveway on Hoyt Street, according to authorities.

The identities of the three juveniles were not disclosed due to their ages; two are 17 years old and one is 16 years old. All three were issued juvenile summonses of third-degree larceny of a motor vehicle.

According to police, officers were called to Hoyt Street at about 10:15 p.m. on a report of a suspicious vehicle parked in a driveway.

"Once on scene, officers observed a red Toyota SUV in the driveway which was occupied by three juveniles," Darien police officials said in a statement. "When contacted, the juveniles said they had gotten lost looking for a party. A routine check of the vehicle's license information revealed that the Toyota had been reported stolen out of Stamford. When confronted with this information, the driver told officers he borrowed the vehicle from a friend."

All three suspects were taken into custody and transported to Darien police headquarters where they were charged. Each one subsequently was released to a parent and are due in juvenile court in Stamford at a later date.
